Since 2004, the winner of a SHONEN JUMP Championship has received a special prize card. Even though the name of these events changed to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series this past weekend, the tradition of the prize card lives on. But the new prize card announced this weekend was actually a set of 3 different cards: Darklord AsmodeusDarklord Edeh Arae, and Darklord Superbia!

All three Darklords are DARK Fairy-Type monsters.  Darklord Asmodeus is a 3000 ATK 2500 DEF Level 8 monster, that can’t be Special Summoned from your Deck or Graveyard.  Each turn, it lets you send a Fairy to the Graveyard from your Deck.  If Asmodeus is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, you Special Summon a Level 5 1800 ATK 1300 DEF Asmo Token, and a Level 3 Deus Token with 1200 ATK and 1200 DEF.   The Asmo Token can’t be destroyed by card effects, while the Deus Token can’t be destroyed by battle.  Destroying Asmodeus literally splits its ATK, DEF (and even its name!) into two smaller monsters that are tougher to deal with.
Asmodeus’ first ability is really important: it helps you make the most of the other Darklords. Darklord Edeh Arae is a Level 5 with 2300 ATK and 2000 DEF, and if it’s Special Summoned from the Graveyard it can deal piercing damage when attacking a Defense Position monster. Darklord Superbia is a Level 8 monster with 2900 ATK and 2400 DEF, and when it’s Special Summoned from the Graveyard it can Special Summon another Fairy from your Graveyard as well – anything but another Superbia.
You can use Asmodeus to send Edeh Arae, Superbia, and other Fairies to bring back with Superbia’s effect to your Graveyard.  But since Asmodeus and Superbia are both Level 8 monsters, you can also use them with Trade-In, too. Darklord Zerato from Phantom Darknessis also a Level 8 DARK Fairy that fits the theme.  With cards like Armageddon KnightDark Grepher, and Foolish Burial, it’s not hard to build your Graveyard.  But sending monsters to the Graveyard is just half the fun – you have to bring them back next.
You can Special Summon Edeh Arae or the mighty Superbia with Call of the Haunted and get their effects, but one of the most reliable ways to put these cards to work is to play them withThe Dark Creator.  All the Darklords, as well as Armageddon Knight and Dark Grepher, are DARK monsters.  Get five or more of them into your Graveyard and you can Special SummonThe Dark Creator.  Its effect will let you Special Summon Darklord Superbia, and Superbia will Special Summon another Fairy in turn.
If you can load your Graveyard with Superbia and Zerato, you can use The Dark Creator and Special Summon both on the same turn – a total of exactly 8000 ATK.  That’s a win against a clear field, and since Zerato can destroy all of your opponent’s monsters it’s pretty easy to do.  Add some more Summon tricks like Allure of Darkness and Gold Sarcophagus combined withD.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation or Escape from the Dark Dimension, and you’ve got a combo-heavy Deck that can wipe out your opponent in an instant.
It’s a truly unprecedented prize, and it’s only at Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series tournaments!
