Using monster effects during the Battle Phase has been all the rage recently, and Chivalry’s knightly power can stop them all. Chivalry is a brand new Counter Trap that negates the activation of any monster effect that’s used in the Battle Phase and destroys that monster.
Chivalry can be a strong card against some of the most popular Decks. Many Duelists are afraid to attack face-down monsters an X-Saber Duelist controls, since triggering the effect of a Sangan or XX-Saber Emmersblade can put an X-Saber opponent in the exact spot he wants to be in. But with Chivalry face-down, you’ll have nothing to fear. After you attack and destroy one of those monsters, you can activate Chivalry to negate that monster’s effect!
Chivalry can also be used to stop powerful monster effects that your opponent could activate from his hand during your Battle Phase. Cards like Battle Fader and Gorz the Emissary of the Darkness can sometimes stop you from scoring direct attacks and winning a Duel. But withChivalry Set, you can charge in against your opponent. Chivalry offers the same protection against Honest and Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow. When you’d otherwise be reluctant to attack, Chivalry will give you the confidence you need.
You can also use Chivalry to stop some of the nastiest Flip Effects in the game. If your monster runs into Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, or Gravekeeper’s Spy in battle, you can use Chivalry to negate the monster’s Flip-Effect and destroy the monster that activated it. It’s especially good when your monster wouldn’t otherwise destroy that monster in battle!
Chivalry can also stop monster effects that activate when an opponent’s monster wins a battle, like the effects of Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame and Lord British Space Fighter. It can even negate and destroy X-Saber Airbellum when it attacks directly and tries to force you to discard a carde!.
You never know which other monsters you’ll see. Monsters that have slowly lost popularity but are still seeing play, like Mystic Tomato and Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, have effects that can activate during the Battle Phase and be negated by Chivalry. Any Gladiator Beast that tags out at the end of the Battle Phase can also have its effect negated by Chivalry, effectively giving the Gladiator Beast Duelist’s opponent access to their own Gladiator Beast War Chariot!
While Chivalry is a powerful card that can be fit into just about any Main or Side Deck, there are certain Decks that it’s especially potent in. Counter Fairy Duelists can activate it whileBountiful Artemis is on the field in order to draw a free card. They can also Special SummonVan’Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord after using Chivalry (as long as it’s not during the Damage Step!), and Special Summon a monster from their Graveyard thanks to the effect of Van’Dalgyon.
If you use Chivalry while Naturia Forest is face-up on the field, you’ll be able to search your Deck for a “Naturia” monster to add to your hand. This is a great way to get your Naturia Deck up and running.
Chivalry is a powerful card that can give you the courage you need to battle. Try it out and see what it can do for your army of monsters.
