Aug 13, 2011
If you’re just starting out and don’t yet have your own Deck, you can build one with some packs of Generation Force! There are 3 new strategies in Generation Force, and by trading some of your Generation Force cards for your friends’, you can each choose 1 of these new strategies to build your first Deck around. Then you can Duel against your friends!
1.) Wind-Ups
The Wind-Up monsters in Generation Force are low-Level monsters with cool effects that can each be used once while they’re face-up.
Wind-Up Soldier is a Level 4 monster that has 1800 ATK, and you can give it an extra 400 ATK with its effect. Wind-Up Magician has 1800 DEF, and lets you Special Summon a Wind-Up monster from your Deck when you activate the effect of another Wind-Up monster. Wind-Up Juggler, Wind-Up Dog, and Wind-Up Snail also have effects that can be activated once while they’re face-up.
Wind-Up Factory works with all of these monsters. Wind-Up Factory lets you search your Deck for a Wind-Up monster whenever you use one of their effects. It’s the cold heart of a Wind-Up Deck, and it lets you use even the weakest Wind-Up monsters that you pulled in your packs of Generation Force to search your Deck for stronger ones.
In a few weeks, there will be a Collectible Tin featuring the Wind-Up Zenmaister Xyz Monster. It’s a cool monster that lets you re-wind your other Wind-Up monsters!
2.) Crashbugs
The Crashbug monsters let you Special Summon other Crashbugs from your Deck.
Here’s what you can do with them:
- Summon Crashbug X while you control Crashbug Y in order to Special SummonCrashbug Z from your Deck.
- Summon Crashbug Y while you control Crashbug Z in order to Special SummonCrashbug X from your Deck.
- Summon Crashbug Z while you control Crashbug X in order to Special SummonCrashbug Y from your Deck.
Crashbugs X, Y, and Z are all Level 3 monsters. That means that if you control any 2 of them, you can Xyz Summon a Rank 3 Grenosaurus from Starter Deck: Dawn of the Xyz. If you were lucky enough to pull or trade for Number 17: Leviathan Dragon or Number 34: Terror-Byte, you can combine your Crashbugs to Summon those Xyz Monsters instead. You’ll also be able to get Number 17 guaranteed when the Number 17: Leviathan Dragon Collectible Tin comes out in a few weeks.
Unlike any other Deck, Crashbug Decks are also able to Summon Super Crashbug! Super Crashbug can only be Summoned by banishing Crashbug X, Crashbug Y, and Crashbug Zfrom your Graveyard. It has 0 ATK and 3000 DEF, but since it swaps the ATK and DEF of all Attack Position monsters on the field, it can attack for 3000 points of damage! If you have Terrorbyte, its ATK will become 2900, giving you almost 6000 ATK worth of monsters! Super Crashbug is also easy to Summon, since Crashbugs X, Y, and Z pull one another out of the Deck.
Crashbugs also make good monsters to Tribute for high-Level monsters like Perditious Puppeteer. Use it to take your opponent’s weaker monsters and attack, then use them for an Xyz Summon! If your opponent manages to beat the Puppeteer and your Xyz Monsters, you can still fall back on Super Crashbug to win.
3.) Generation Fish
Generation Force also has a bunch of easy-to-get Fish, Aqua, and Sea-Serpent cards that you can use to build your first Deck. Spearfish Soldier, Big Jaws, and Fly-Fang are just 3 of those monsters, which have low Levels, have high ATK, and work with cards that take advantage of your banished sea critters. Big Jaws banishes itself after it attacks, Fly-Fang temporarily banishes itself when it damages an opponent, and Spearfish Soldier gains 100 ATK for each of your banished Fish, Sea Serpent, and Aqua monsters. You can read about more Generation Fish strategies here.
Once you put together the basic build for your first Deck, you can boost your Deck’s power with some stronger cards. Level 4 monsters with 1800 or more ATK, like Absolute Crusaderand Gogogo Golem, are always strong choices for a Duelist’s first Deck. Powerful cards for your Extra Deck, including the new Xyz Monsters in Generation Force, will also give you a boost in the competition.
There are lots of cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, and the number of choices for your Deck may sometimes feel daunting. But every Duelist starts somewhere, and every Duelist always remembers his or her first Deck. You can build yours from the cards you pull in packs of Generation Force!
