Monster effects that activate from the hand are very difficult to stop, and your opponent will almost never see them coming. D.D. Crow is the popular right now, because it can remove key cards in the opponent’s Graveyard from play, shutting down the key combos of Decks in the process. Honest and Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow give your monsters the ATK boost they need to take down stronger monsters, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness can come out of nowhere to save you from defeat. Duelist Revolution has a monster called Effect Veiler, which can be sent from your hand to the Graveyard to negate the effects of one of your opponent’s face-up monsters.
During your opponent’s Main Phase, you can negate the effects of 1 of your opponent’s face-up monsters by sending Effect Veiler from your hand to the Graveyard. This stops most of your opponent’s big combos since several Decks rely on monster effects to win Duels. Against X-Sabers, you prevent XX-Saber Hyunlei from destroying your Spells and Traps, XX-Saber Faultroll from Summoning more monsters, and XX-Saber Gottoms from discarding cards from your hand. Against Infernities your opponent won’t get free cards from their Deck withInfernity Archfiend, and Infernity Doom Dragon won’t destroy your monsters. Frog OTKDecks are completely shut down if Substitoad’s effect is negated, and Frog Monarchs need to send Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard with Swap Frog’s Effect. Effect Veiler can negate cards in any Deck, making it a useful card to have in your hand at all times.
Effect Veiler also negates the Continuous Effects of your opponent’s monsters, so if your opponent controls a Jinzo you can negate its effect then destroy it with your Trap Cards!Naturia Bamboo Shoot is a powerful new card in Duelist Revolution that’s similar to Jinzo, but also prevents you from playing Spell Cards, and Effect Veiler is one of a select few cards that stops it from shutting your Deck down.
Just remember that the monster effects you negate with Effect Veiler will come back next turn, so you need to destroy Bamboo Shoot right away or you won’t be able to play your Spells and Traps again. Another cool thing about Effect Veiler is that if an Effect Monster has to Tribute itself to activate its effect, that effect will be negated since it was initially activated on the field! This stops the effects of several cards, such as Stardust Dragon, Lonefire Blossom, Test Tiger and Infernity Mirage.
Just remember that Effect Veiler can only target monsters while they’re on the field, so if they’re Tributed as soon as they’re Summoned, you won’t have a chance to select them as target for Effect Velier’s effect. Also, Effect Veiler can only negate effects that activate on the field, so you won’t be able to stop XX-Saber Darksoul and Sangan from giving your opponent free cards.
Effect Veiler’s also a Tuner, so it’s just as useful on the field as it is in your hand. With 0 ATK and DEF you can add it from your Deck to your hand with Sangan, and you can Special Summon it from your Deck with One for One since it’s a Level 1 monster. It’s also a LIGHT monster, so you can Special Summon it with Shining Angel, give it an ATK boost with Honest, and return it to your hand from the Graveyard with Beckoning Light, ready to be discarded again. As a Spellcaster it can be Special Summoned with Magical Exemplar for a quick Level 5 Synchro Summon, and also works well with cards like Apprentice Magician, Arcane Barrierand Magical Dimension in a Spellcaster Deck.
Effect Veiler can fit into a lot of Decks, and its simple and useful effect makes it a solid addition to any Duelist’s Side Deck. Be on the lookout for it!
