At the recent SHONEN JUMP Championship in Los Angeles we revealed 4 of the World Premiere cards from the upcoming Absolute Powerforce booster pack set. With less than 2 weeks to go until the Sneak Peek, we thought it would be cool to show you some more World Premiere cards that you might find in your packs on February 6th and 7th. First up is “Alchemist of Black Spells”:
“Alchemist of Black Spells” is a Level 4 Spellcaster with 1200 ATK, 1800 DEF, and this effect: “Once per turn, you can change this face-up Attack Position card you control to face-up Defense Position and place a Spell Counter on a face-up card you control that you can place a Spell Counter on.”
“Alchemist of Black Spells” is perfect for any Spellcaster Deck that needs a lot of Spell Counters. Many of the best Spellcaster monsters and the Spell and Trap Cards that go with them require Spell Counters in order to do their thing, and “Alchemist of Black Spells” can provide 1 free Spell Counter every turn. Just change him to Attack Position manually, then use his effect to get a Spell Counter and shift him back to Defense. You can even shift him to Attack Position in Main Phase 1, attack with him, then use his effect and shift back to Defense in Main Phase 2.
Two of the best cards to put Spell Counters on are “Arcanite Magician” and “Tempest Magician.”
“Arcanite Magician” gains 1000 ATK for every Spell Counter on it, so each turn your “Alchemist of Black Spells” will make it 1000 points stronger. You can also remove Spell Counters from your side of the field to destroy cards your opponent controls. “Arcanite Magician” is from Crimson Crisis.
“Tempest Magician” lets you damage your opponent by removing every Spell Counter from the field. The more Spell Counters you remove, the more damage “Tempest Magician” deals, so making lots of Spell Counters with “Alchemist of Black Spells” will help you defeat your opponent even faster. “Tempest Magician” is easily available in Stardust Overdrive Special Edition.
“Crusader of Endymion” and “Alchemist of Black Spells” are like brothers. They both have effects that put Spell Counters on the field, but they both do it in a different way. “Crusader of Endymion” is a heavy hitting monster that you use to attack your opponent. Creating Spell Counters gives it more ATK for the turn. “Alchemist of Black Spells” is a defensive monster. You have to switch it to Defense Position to create the Spell Counter, but you can still use the effect even after you attack. If you have both of them on the field at the same time, you can create two Spell Counters every turn and make it hard for your opponent to fight back. “Crusader of Endymion” can be found in Stardust Overdrive.
If you’re looking to combine “Crusader of Endymion” and “Alchemist of Black Spells,” the best cards to go along with them are “Magical Citadel of Endymion” and “Arcanite Magician.” Both cards can hold an unlimited number of Spell Counters, and “Arcanite Magician” is especially good because it can destroy your opponent’s cards with its effect and open them up for direct attacks!
The Spellcaster’s Command Structure Deck has a lot of great cards that can help you make this ideal scenario a reality. “Magical Exemplar” is a Spellcaster-Type monster that uses Spell Counters to Special Summon Spellcasters from your hand or Graveyard. She also gains 2 Spell Counters every time either player uses a Spell Card. Combine “Magical Expemplar” with “Foolish Burial” from Turbo Pack 2 and 2 Spell Counters from anywhere, and you can create a card combo to search out and Summon any Level 4 or lower Spellcaster from your Deck!
The Trap Card “Magician’s Circle” lets you Special Summon a Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck with 2000 ATK or less when a Spellcaster attacks. If you attack with either “Crusader of Endymion” or “Alchemist of Black Spells,” you can play this Trap Card to search the other one out of your Deck!
Even if you don’t manage to Synchro Summon “Arcanite Magician,” you can still Summon “Breaker the Magical Warrior” and use him to destroy your opponent’s Spell and Trap Cards. Breaker can only hold one Spell Counter at a time, but you can keep destroying your opponent’s Trap Cards, then attacking with Breaker and “Alchemist of Black Spells.” Then, shift “Alchemist of Black Spells” to Defense Position to power Breaker back up and allow your Alchemist to defend itself.
“Alchemist of Black Spells” is just one of the cool new Ultra Rare cards you might find at the Absolute Powerforce Sneak Preview. Keep checking back, because we’ll be previewing even more new cards soon!
