Dragon-Type monsters are some of the coolest ones you’ll find, and Order of Chaos gives us 3 more interesting ones to play with!
Prepare for the Apocralyph!
Divine Dragon Apocralyph is a Level 4 monster with a similar effect to Genesis Dragon, but a lot easier to make use of. Once per turn you can discard a card from your hand and choose a Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard, and you get to add that monster back to your hand. This will be of great benefit to Dragon Decks that focus on using Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (REDMD) to Special Summon as many Dragons as they can for free.
One way to use Apocralyph is to Normal Summon it, discard a card to return REDMD to your hand, and then banish Apocralyph to Summon it. If you discarded a Dragon-Type monster you can Summon it with REDMD’s effect and have 2 high ATK Dragons on your field to take down your opponent with! With this combo it’s possible to turn your 1000 ATK Divine Dragon Apocralyph into a combined total of almost 6000 ATK, by Summoning REDMD and Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!
A storm of darkness awaits!
Darkstorm Dragon is a Level 8 Gemini monster with quite a devastating effect. When it first hits the field it’s considered to be a Normal Monster, but if you Normal Summon it again it’ll become an Effect Monster that will spell doom for your opponents’ defences! When Darkstorm Dragon is “switched on”, its effect lets you send one of your face-up Spell/Trap cards to the Graveyard to destroy every Spell and Trap Card on the field! Heavy Storm is one of the most powerful Spell Cards that can fit in any Deck, and Darkstorm Dragon’s effect is like running multiple copies of it!
The best way to make use of Darkstorm Dragon’s effect is in a Deck using Dragon Ravine. First you activate it and discard Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (or Red-Eyes Wyvern) to send the other Red-Eyes monster to the Graveyard. At the end of your turn you can Special Summon REDMD with Wyvern’s effect, and next turn Special Summon Darkstorm Dragon with REDMD’s effect. After that you can Normal Summon Darkstorm Dragon, and send Dragon Ravine to the Graveyard to destroy every other Spell and Trap card on the field!

Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon’s a Level 5 monster that can be Special Summoned from your hand whenever one of your other monsters is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. You can use it in many ways, from defending yourself from further attacks to setting up some big Summons. For example, in a Dragon Deck you can Set Masked Dragon and have your opponent destroy it in battle, allowing you to Summon Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon.Masked Dragon’s effect kicks in and lets you Special Summon a Tuner Monster like Delta FlyerDread DragonMagna Drago or Dragunity Brandistock. Depending on which Dragon you Summoned, you can then Synchro Summon a Level 6, 7 or 8 monster like Orient Dragon,Black Rose Dragon or Stardust Dragon!
Outside of a Dragon Deck, Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon helps you set up Xyz Summons with the help of monsters like Gagaga Magician and Flame Armor Ninja. Since it’s a Dragon, you can use it in a Ninja Deck with Ninjitsu Art of Super Transformation to take out and opposing monster and replace it with your Dragon. Then, when your turn rolls around, drop Flame Armor Ninja and use its effect to make it Level 5, a perfect match with your Dragon! That gives you easy access to Rank 5 monsters like Adreus, Keeper of Armageddonand Number 12: Crimson Shadow Armor Ninja.
With the Dragons Collide Structure Deck fast approaching, these Dragons from Order of Chaoswill certainly be worth picking up, as they can make for some impressive combos with the new cards we’ll see in February. If you’re looking to build (or re-build) your Dragon Deck now’s a good time to do so!
