The Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME is about to be revolutionized by Xyz Monsters, starting with Starter Deck: Dawn of the Xyz on Tuesday, and Xyz Veil will make sure that these new monsters stick around long after they’re Summoned! If you still don’t know what an Xyz Monster is or how to Summon it, look here to learn all about it, then come back here and read on.

Xyz Veil is a Continuous Trap Card that prevents Xyz Monsters from being targeted by card effects while they still have Xyz Material. All Duelists participating in the Generation Force Sneak Peek will receive a copy of Xyz Veil that they can use to protect their favorite Xyz Monsters.

While Xyz Veil is face-up on the field, some of the strongest monsters in your Extra Deck become immune to the most dangerous effects. Some Xyz Monsters, like the Rank 5 Tiras, Keeper of Genesis, are hard to destroy even without extra protection from other card effects. While Tiras has Xyz Material, he’s invulnerable to any effect that would destroy him. But with Xyz Veil stopping opponents from targeting him with the effects of cards like Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Chaos Sorcerer, defeating the 2600 ATK Tiras in battle becomes the only reasonable solution, and it’s tough to do.

The Rank 2 and Rank 4 monsters, Gachi Gachi Gantetsu (whose effect bumps its DEF to 2200 and boosts your other monsters by 400 ATK and DEF) and Number 39: Utopia (2500 ATK monster that can negate attacks), from Starter Deck: Dawn of the Xyz are easy to Summon, but extremely hard to take down while Xyz Veil is on the field. Gachi Gachi Gantetsu is especially tough to beat with Xyz Veil is face-up, since you can also remove an Xyz Material from it in order to protect it from destruction.

Xyz Veil will only protect Xyz Monsters that have Xyz Materials under them. Once you use up all of the Xyz Materials under your Xyz Monster to activate card effects, Xyz Veil will stop protecting your monster. While Xyz Veil is face-up on the field, you’ll want to make sure that you keep at least 1 Xyz Material under each of your Xyz Monsters for as long as you can, in order to make the most of it.

As long as your monster is protected by Xyz Veil, it’s immune to some of the most popular cards in the game. Compulsory Evacuation Device, Dimensional Prison, and Mind Control are all useless against Xyz Monsters while Xyz Veil is on the field. Plus, strong monsters like Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Chaos Sorcerer are powerless to eliminate Xyz Monsters with their effects while Xyz Veil is face-up.

Xyz Veil works for both players, so you’ll want to activate it after you Summon your first Xyz Monster, or right when you’re about to Summon your first Xyz Monster. This way, your opponent won’t be able to take advantage of your Xyz Veil before you can see it protect your monster.

Be careful. Chaining Xyz Veil to an effect that targets your monster won’t protect your monster from that card effect, so you’ll need to activate Xyz Veil before that happens. For example, if your opponent flips Dimensional Prison to banish your attacking Xyz Monster, you won’t be able to Chain Xyz Veil to save your monster. But if you flip Xyz Veil before declaring your attack, your opponent won’t be able to banish your monster with Dimensional Prison, since Dimensional Prison targets the attacking monster. It works a lot like Safe Zone from Extreme Victory.

Generation Force is jam-packed with Xyz Monsters and cards that support them. You can see previews of more of these cards on the Konami Strategy Site in the upcoming weeks, and then see the rest of the set at the Generation Force Sneak Peek in August!
