Monsters with effects that can be used while they’re in the Graveyard are usually very powerful. The ability to spring an effect on an opponent by using nothing but the cards in your Graveyard can give you a huge advantage in a Duel. Necro Defender is a monster with one of those effects. Any time you get lucky when sending cards from your Deck to the Graveyard and you strike a Necro Defender, you’ll open up a new play without using a card in your hand.
During your Main Phase, you can remove from play this card from your Graveyard to select 1 monster you control. Until your opponent’s next End Phase, that monster cannot be destroyed by battle, and you take no Battle Damage from battles involving it.

Necro Defender will protect a monster from battle until the end of your opponent’s next turn. It will also prevent any Battle Damage involving that monster. Since you’ll need to removeNecro Defender from your Graveyard to use its effect, it’s best suited for Decks that can easily send cards from the Deck to the Graveyard. Card TrooperCharge of the Light Brigade, andRyko, Lightsworn Hunter are all able to give you the effect of Necro Defender without actually drawing it.
Twilight Decks make the best use of Necro Defender. Twilight Decks are constantly sending random cards from the top of the Deck to the Graveyard with the effects of Lightsworn monsters, and can quickly send Necro Defender there. Twilight Duelists can also use Necro Defender to protect Lightsworn monsters like Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress and Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner. Lyla and Lumina will reuse their effects if they stay on the field for a couple of turns, so opponents usually try to destroy them as quickly as possible.
Necro Defender is also a DARK monster, which means it makes Chaos Sorcerer easier to Summon in Twilight Decks. Twilight Decks are usually packed with LIGHT monsters and short on the DARK monsters that are needed to Summon Sorcerer. Necro Defender helps out the situation.
Decks built around Junk Synchron and Tuning also work especially well with Necro Defender.Necro Defender is a Level 2 monster with less than 500 ATK. That means it can be Special Summoned by the effects of Junk Synchron or Debris Dragon. Tuning Junk Synchron withNecro Defender will instantly allow you to Summon a Level 5 Synchro Monster like (the upcoming) T.G. Hyper Librarian. Tuning Debris Dragon with Necro Defender lets you Synchro Summon Iron Chain Dragon.
Necro Defender has a cool effect and synergy with a bunch of different Decks. Its Attribute, Level, and low Attack Points are all assets when considered alongside some of the most popular cards in the game. Try it out, and you might find that it’s an effective addition to Twilight Decks or a solid Synchro Material Monster in Junk Decks.
