Decks built around Yusei’s Quickdraw Synchron took fourth place at YCS San Jose, and second place at YCS Philadelphia.  We already talked about the power boost they get fromFormula Synchron, but that’s not all that’s in store for Quickdraw Duelists in Starstrike Blast!  They also get an incredible new Spell Card: 1 that can only be compared to Duel-defining Spells like Charge of the Light Brigade.  Behold the power of Tuning!

Add 1 "Synchron" Tuner monster from your Deck to your hand. Then send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard.
Before Starstrike Blast, the only way most Quickdraw Duelists could search QuickdrawSynchron from their Deck was with Sangan: a Limited monster that has to be sent from the field to the Graveyard to get you anything.  Aside from that, you had to get lucky with GenexNeutron – a monster that gets you a Machine from your Deck, IF it survives a turn – or just wait until you could draw Quickdraw.  Now there’s no more waiting.  You can run up to 3 copies of Tuning, and use it to instantly get Quickdraw Synchron from your Deck.  As a bonus, you send the top card of your Deck to your Graveyard.  That’s awesome, because Quickdraw Dandywarrior Decks pack lots of cards that have powerful effects in the Graveyard.

If you can land any of these cards in the Graveyard with Tuning, you'll unlock big combos!

Glow-Up Bulb and Spore are both Tuner monsters, and you can use their effects to Special Summon them from the Graveyard without using up cards from your hand.  Dandylion is a Quickdraw classic Sending it to the Graveyard means you’ll Special Summon 2 Fluff Tokens, which you can then use for Synchro Summon, Tribute Summons, or more defense.  And whenVolcanic Shell is in the Graveyard, you can pay 500 Life Points to get another 1 from your Deck and add it to your hand.  It’s like getting 2 cards with Tuning instead of 1.
You can even discard Volcanic Shell to Special Summon Quickdraw Synchron.

Do that, and you can use your second Shell to get the third from your Deck.  Normal Summon it, Tune it to Quickdraw, and you can Synchro Summon Drill Warrior or Turbo Warrior.  Searching out Quickdraw Synchron is awesome enough, but if you get lucky and send the right card to the Graveyard with Tuning, you can set off amazing combos.  All without using any more cards from your hand.
Didn’t send 1 of those 4 monsters to your Graveyard?  Drill Warrior’s effect lets you return a monster to your hand from the Graveyard each turn, so there are lots of strong monsters that you can get to your hand if you send them with Tuning.  Check ‘em out:
Effect Veiler then Caius the Shadow Monarch then Swift Scarecrow

Since Effect Veiler and Swift Scarecrow can be played straight from your hand to the Graveyard, you can use them every turn to shut down your opponent’s moves.  You could do the same with D.D. Crow, devastating your opponent’s Graveyard.  Or, take back Caius the Shadow Monarch: if you’ve got Fluff Tokens to Tribute, you can remove your opponent’s toughest card and then make big attacks.  But it’s not just about Drill Warrior: there are lots of other Synchro Monsters you can Summon with Quickdraw Synchron, including 1 you may never have seen before.
Turbo Warrior is a Level 6 Synchro Monster that can halve the ATK of Level 6 or higher Synchro Monsters.  Its effect protects it from  being targeted by the effects of low-level monsters too, like Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter or Effect Veiler.  Nitro Warrior can force your opponent’s Defense Position monster into Attack Position, while Junk Destroyer can destroy cards equal to the number of non-Tuner Synchro Materials you used to Summon it.
The newest member of the club is Chevalier de Fleur.  Once during each of your turns, the Level 8 Chevalier can negate an opposingSpell or Trap.  That means she can protect herself from Trap Cards like Bottomless Trap Hole and Torrential Tribute, as well as Spells like Book of Moon or Enemy Controller.  You can find Fleur in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Tagforce 5 video game, and we’ll talk about her more in a later article. For now, just keep in mind that Tuning makes it easy to unleash all of these Synchro Monsters.
One of the coolest things about Tuning is that you can pair it with Quickdraw Synchron and then add them to Decks that never ran Quickdraw before.  If a Deck benefits from putting cards in the Graveyard, it can probably make use of Tuning and Quickdraw.  That means easy access to Drill Warrior, letting you reuse key monsters and make stronger combos.  Here are a few Decks where you could splash Quickdraw and Tuning.
Lightsworn Duelists can use Tuning to help load their Graveyard with “Lightsworn” monsters: that makes it easier to Special Summon Wulf, Lightsworn Beast and Judgment Dragon.  IfJudgment Dragon or Honest get sent to the Graveyard, Drill Warrior can get them back to your hand.  Just remember: you’ll have to add a Level 1 non-Tuner like Swift Scarecrow orLevel Eater, because most Lightsworn Decks don’t run Level 1’s.
Zombie Duelists can send Plaguespreader Zombie and Mezuki to the Graveyard to get their effects, or load up with Zombies for Zombie Master and Book of Life.  Scrap Duelists can send Scrap Tuners, or Scrap Chimera and Scrap Searcher to the Graveyard, and use Drill Warriorto get back Scrap Chimera.
Remember, Tuning can get you any “Synchron” Tuner from your Deck: not just Quickdraw. Junk Synchron is a powerful monster that can let you Special Summon Ally of Justice Catastor or Magical Android without any further investment on your part.  You could even search out Hyper Synchron or Road Synchron, 2 Level 4 Tuners with solid ATK.  That’s what’s so exciting about Tuning: there are just so many Tuners, Synchro Monsters, and combos to use it with.  The only limit is your imagination, so be on the lookout for Tuning once Starstrike Blast hits the streets on November 16th!
