Most Decks need to be able to get to their best monsters quickly to make their big combos work. One of the most common ways to do this is with monsters that Summon more monsters from the Deck when they’re destroyed in battle.

When these guys are destroyed in battle, they can bring out more monsters!

There are lots of different types of cards that Special Summon all sorts of monsters from the Deck. “Mystic Tomato” can Special Summon a DARK monster with 1500 or less ATK with its effect, and there are lots of useful DARK monsters that fit into this category, such as “Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind,” “Plaguespreader Zombie” and “Spirit Reaper.” There are monsters capable of doing the same thing with other attributes as well. “Giant Rat” can bring out EARTH monsters, and “Mother Grizzly” can Summon WATER monsters with its effect. “Masked Dragon” works in a similar way too, but it can Special Summon Dragon-type monsters like “Exploder Dragon,” “Magna Drago” and “Debris Dragon” instead. “XX-Saber Emmersblade” can Special Summon any Level 4 or lower “X-Saber” monster from the Deck if it’s sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle. All of the monsters mentioned above can also search out copies of themselves from the Deck, which means they’re capable of blocking several attacks in a row.

These cards won’t work, so you’ll have to try something different.

These monsters can be tricky to stop, since you can’t get rid of the monsters they Summon as easily as you can handle other monsters. That’s because their effects activate during the Damage Step, and very few cards can be activated at this time. Cards that you’d usually use to stop monsters from being Special Summoned such as “Bottomless Trap Hole” and “Royal Oppression” can’t be activated at this time, so you need to find another way to get around these monsters’ effects. You can’t use “Skill Drain” against them either since their effects activate in the Graveyard, where “Skill Drain” can’t negate them. One way to handle these monsters is to destroy them without having to face off against them in battle. You can use cards such as “Smashing Ground” and “Fissure” if they’re already face-up, and “Nobleman of Crossout” if they’re face-down. You could also try to take control of them with “Brain Control” or “Mind Control,” and use them for a Synchro Summon with a Tuner Monster you already control or have in your hand.

There are also ways to safely battle against these monsters and not have to worry about their effects. Since they need to go to the Graveyard to work, you can use “Banisher of the Radiance,” “Dimensional Fissure” and “Macro Cosmos” to remove them from play when they’re destroyed. Their effects won’t be able to activate and you can attack them safely. Some monsters have effects that work well against these types of monsters too. You’ll usually see these types of monsters being played in Defense Position, so you can use “Ehren, Lightsworn Monk” to send them back into the Deck, or “Red Dragon Archfiend” to destroy them before they can activate their effects. Cards like “Drillroid” also work against these monsters when they’re in Defense Position.

One final way to beat them is to fight fire with fire! A lot of these monsters have similar ATK points, usually 1400, so if your opponent Summons one in Attack Position, bring out your own and attack into it! You’ll both get to Special Summon another monster, and while this might help your opponent, it’s also helping you out at the same time, and you might have a bigger combo planned than he does.

Many Decks can make use of these types of monsters, since there are so many of them out there. You’ll come across quite a few when you play in a big event, and you should be ready to take them on now.
